Local Gastronomy



Sarlat is a high place of gastronomy: Périgord black truffle, foie-gras, walnuts, ...

Throughout the year, many events come to color the local gastronomy:

  • Feast of the truffle (January)
  • Fest'Oie (month of March)
  • Gastronomy Day (September)

And every Wednesday and Saturday morning, in the heart of the medieval city, around the Place de la Liberté, local producers make an appointment on the traditional market.

The city also has a covered market housed in an old church in the historic center, St. Mary's Church. The covered market opened its monumental doors in 2001, renovated by architect Jean Nouvel. It is behind two monumental steel gates 16 meters high and weighing 7 tons each, that you can discover a trading space. There are fresh products (vegetables, breads, cheeses and pastries) and local products (nuts, chestnuts, foie gras, duck breasts, porcini mushrooms ...).
